New Food !
I have invented a whole new food thing!
Well, I expect someone else *might* have invented it before, but if they did they never told me and I'm not searching t'internet just to prove myself wrong. That would be daft.
Anyway I invented the Honey Omelette!
Just mix up one egg and add two BIG dollops of honey. I thought this might make a big claggy, sticky, egg, mess that stuck to everything
Heat up some butter (or oil if you're not feeling all buttery today) in an omelette pan and cook like you would any other small folded omelette.
The sugars in the honey caramelise and go a lovely brown...
And then it's ready!
*Some might wonder why, that if I thought this, I would try such a feat- well, I invented this while getting adventurous with some honey/chilli/chicken concoction. I wanted to dip it in some flour, paprika and herbs and fry it up. I'd made up some egg to dip the chicken in (to make the flour/paprika stick) but I had forgotten the honey. So I put a little honey in the egg to see what would happen, then tried some more and discovered you could put loads in - and the Honey Omelette was born! (The chicken wasn't bad either).

That does sound really good, although I am shocked that you would get your eggs from a supermarket rather than laid by some local hens. Although the hens in stockwell probably shoot up.
Anyway, it sounds very ancient. The ancients liked that sort of thing. Would probably be eaten with Garum or something.
Cowboy frequently breakfasts on a fried egg and honey sandwich. I have no idea how he discovered it, but he insists egg and honey are a match made in heaven.
I'm quite sure he'll be trying the egg-honey pancake this weekend :-) It looks deliciously lonely on the plate; I'm thinking it should be friends with berries, bananas and cream.
Ian I believe you are starting from the very beining of food invention and working forward. In the oldest book of recipies evah (Egyptian) they had a recipe for Honey Omelette!
When those pesky Greeks and Romans came along and stole everything they started modifying the recipie and everything. The Romans, for example, added pine nuts. Maybe you could give that a go?
So yes you may have been pipped to the post but at least it is in the most historic recipe book OF ALL TIME! ahem.
Hmmm...it's so wrong it's right. I was gagging a little at first but it's like a low-cal fourless pancake! Very nice! I agree with the berries and cream side comment. Ian, I think we would love to read of more of your kitchen experiments!
Do you add salt & pepper as well?
I want to make sure I have all the ingredients assembled before I begin.
Lisa, no seasoning, just eggs and honey!
Hi Ian.
I miss you.
Has this been a really boring month?
There must be something you could blog about!
